The Orioles recalled reliever Conner Greene from Triple-A Norfolk this afternoon, two days after claiming him off waivers from the Dodgers. He replaces Konner Wade, who was optioned late last night.
Greene returned to the organization after appearing in three games and allowing six runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked one batter and struck out five.
The Dodgers claimed him off waivers on Aug. 9 and he tossed two scoreless innings in his two appearances.
Greene, who's wearing No. 81, could get the baton tonight in the Orioles' bullpen game against the Angels.
Right-hander Chris Ellis makes his Orioles debut and third major league appearance, with manager Brandon Hyde using him as the opener. Ellis was claimed off waivers from the Rays after tossing four scoreless innings against the Orioles in relief.
Jorge Mateo is out of the lineup after leaving last night's game with discomfort in his lower back. Ramón UrÃas is the shortstop and Kelvin Gutiérrez is the third baseman.
Jahmai Jones is starting again at second base.
Austin Hays is on the bench, with DJ Stewart in left field and Anthony Santander in right.
Austin Wynns is catching.
The Angels are starting Shohei Ohtani, who batted leadoff last night. He's 8-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.060 WHIP in 18 starts and is averaging 10.8 strikeouts and 0.7 home runs allowed per nine innings.
Ohtani has never pitched against the Orioles, who are trying to break a 19-game losing streak.
The Orioles haven't won since Aug. 2 in New York. They've been outscored 163-55 during the streak.
