Growing concerns over Reimold

Nolan Reimold had one of the Orioles' eight hits tonight, so perhaps he should be honored with a parade down Pratt St. Unfortunately for Reimold, that single was the only positive aspect of tonight's game. He went 1-for-4 to leave his average at .205. (It actually went up two points. Cue the band.) He also committed an error in left field and still seems to have some trouble judging balls. I thought it was telling that manager Dave Trembley, when asked during his post-game session with the media if Reimold is having confidence issues, hesitated for a few seconds and replied, "I think it's apparent." Asked to evaluate Reimold's defense in left field, Trembley replied, "I see him hesitant. I see him playing safety first. Better player than he's shown. Much better player than he's shown." Lou Montanez didn't get off the bench tonight despite the Mariners starting left-hander Cliff Lee. Reimold didn't do anything to ease concerns over his play this season. They're both on extremely shaky ground as the Orioles contemplate making a roster move, one that could come within the next day or two. Trembley also talked about David Hernandez and how the right-hander got away from his fastball after serving up Ryan Langerhans' home run in the fifth inning. "I really thought David was on his way to pitching one of his better games," Trembley said. "First four innings, his fastball was outstanding. He was pitching down, and then as soon as the guy hit the home run, he went to his breaking ball and changeup and they added on some runs. "I know Kranny will talk to him about it. They'll review the game tomorrow. He sure started off dominating with his fastball. He was throwing the fastball by people. Then the home run to Langerhans seemed to change his approach." Doesn't the catcher shoulder much of that responsibility, since he's calling the game? I don't recall seeing Hernandez shaking him off. Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk's Corey Patterson went 1-for-5 with a double. Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder each had a double and RBI. Kam Mickolio struck out two in a scoreless inning, lowering his ERA to 7.04. He threw 11 of 13 pitches for strikes. Double-A Bowie's Chorye Spoone allowed four runs (two earned) and five hits in five innings against Richmond, walking three, striking out four and throwing a wild pitch.
