Nationals instructional league camp continues for another couple of weeks, but few notables left Wednesday for the Arizona fall league.
Bryce Harper, Sammy Solis, Derek Norris, Pat Lehman, Rafael Martin and Anthony Rendon head the list of Nationals prospects playing this year for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The groups traveled to Arizona on Wednesday. The Scorpions won the league championship last fall.
Harper has looked good in instructional camp, swinging the bat well, according to Potomac Nationals hitting coach Mark Harris, one of the several coaches on hand in Viera, Fla.
Also, making his Arizona fall league debut will be first-round selection out of Rice University, third baseman Rendon.
"The ball comes off his bat well." Harris said. "You can tell it makes a different sound off his bat. Anthony has worked hard in the batting cage. He looks really good at the plate. You can see how he could really impress. He is a handsy type of hitter."
"Rendon uses the barrel of the bat making contact", Harris continued. "There is not a lot of effort in his swing. The ball came off his bat and suddenly its off the right center wall, then another at-bat he hits one off the left center wall. He is taking good at-bats."
The Scorpions open play October 4 vs. Surprise at 9:35 p.m. The annual championship game Nov. 19 at Scottsdale Stadium. The Rising Stars Game is scheduled for Nov. 5 at Surprise Stadium.
