Harvey among eight roster cuts, (O's acquire Moore, tied 4-4)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles manager Brandon Hyde has made his first round of cuts today and they include pitcher Hunter Harvey.

With the Orioles setting the goal of keeping Harvey healthy through camp and setting him up for a full season, the former first-round pick has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk as the only member of the 40-man roster to be dismissed from the Ed Smith Stadium complex.

The club also announced that catcher Cael Brockmeyer, left-hander Chris Lee, right-handers Dean Kremer and Zach Pop, outfielders Ryan McKenna and Mike Yastrzemski and infielder Zach Vincej have been reassigned to the minor league camp at Twin Lakes Park.

Harvey pitched in two exhibition games and allowed two runs in two innings. His fastball topped out at 98 mph in his debut against the Twins on Feb. 25 and he tossed a scoreless inning in his follow-up appearance Friday against the Rays.

The Orioles shut down Harvey in early June with a shoulder injury, and discomfort in his elbow/forearm area prevented him from returning. He made only nine starts, logging 32 1/3 innings, and needs to be built up before they consider him for a promotion.

Brockmeyer was in camp as Jesús Sucre's replacement, but the veteran resolved his visa issues and has joined the team.

Lee allowed one run and four hits with three walks in 2 1/3 innings. Pop didn't pitch after retiring the side in order on Feb. 23 because his fastball velocity dipped into the mid 80s and raised concerns about his health. Kremer strained his left oblique a couple of weeks before reporting to camp.

Hyde determined that Pop was fatigued and backed off him. Pop and Kremer have resumed throwing on flat ground and Hyde said this morning that they're close to getting back into games.

He must not have meant the Grapefruit League.

McKenna was 0-for-3 with two walks and three strikeouts following his impressive showing in the Arizona Fall League. Yastrzemski was hitless in nine at-bats, but he made a diving catch in center field Friday afternoon.

Vincej arrived in camp as a utility candidate and made a nice play at third base yesterday in Fort Myers. He was 2-for-9 with an RBI this spring.

The cuts leave the Orioles with 54 players in camp, plus pitcher Gregory Infante, who remains in Miami after receiving medical clearance to leave Venezuela.

Update: The Orioles have acquired right-hander Xavier Moore from the Twins for $750,000 in international signing bonus slots.

Moore, a 16th-round pick in 2017, hasn't pitched above the low Single-A level. He's registered a 4.54 ERA and 1.574 WHIP in 25 relief appearances and has averaged 4.8 walks and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Moore, 20, has been traded twice today. The Twins obtained him from the Rangers this morning for outfielder Zack Granite.

Niko Goodrum hit a three-run homer off Andrew Cashner in the first inning to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Update II: Austin Hays homered to left-center field leading off the third inning to reduce the lead to 4-1.

Cashner allowed four runs and six hits in three innings. He threw 54 pitches, 37 for strikes.

Update III: Anthony Santander hit a three-run homer in the fourth to tie the game 4-4.
