Hays and Westburg on bench tonight

NEW YORK – Austin Hays and Jordan Westburg are out of the Orioles lineup for tonight’s series opener against the Yankees.

Hays is day-to-day with a left hip contusion. Westburg was hit in the back of the left hand yesterday by a 101 mph fastball.

Gunnar Henderson is leading off and playing third base, with Cedric Mullins lowered to sixth. Aaron Hicks is in left field and Adam Frazier is playing right.

Ramón Urías is the second baseman. Ryan O’Hearn is the cleanup hitter.

Tyler Wells has the second-lowest opponent batting average in the majors among qualifying pitchers at .185, behind the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani at .180, but he’s allowed 19 home runs to tie for third-most behind Lance Lynn’s 22 and Yusei Kikuchi’s 21.

All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman has reached base 31 times in 15 career games against the Yankees, the best start all-time by an Orioles player. Frank Robinson and Brian Roberts reached 26 times in 15 games versus New York, per STATS.

Jeffrey Hammonds and Curt Blefary are next with 25.

The Orioles recorded their 29th comeback win on Sunday, leaving them one behind the Reds for most in the majors.

They’re trying to claim their third consecutive road series against the Yankees dating back to last year, a total they’ve reached only three times in club history, per STATS.

The Orioles have won their last two games at Yankee Stadium. They last time they won three in a row was a stretch spanning 2017-18.

Domingo Germán is making his first start since Wednesday’s perfect game, the 24th in major league history and first since Félix Hernández in August 2012.

Mark Buehrle holds the major league single-season record for most consecutive outs recorded by a starting pitcher with 45. Reliever Yusmeiro Petit holds the overall record of 46 in 2014. Germán has retired 27 in a row.

Tonight marks the first time that a pitcher has started against the Orioles after throwing a perfect game.

Aaron Judge hasn’t played since June 3 because of a toe injury. The Yankees are averaging 3.71 runs per game in his absence, the third-lowest in the majors. Their .215 average and .285 on-base percentage rank last, and their .645 OPS is second-lowest.

Rookie Anthony Volpe has a seven-game hitting streak, going 13-for-26 to raise his average 28 points to .221. Volpe’s streak of five consecutive multiple-hit games ended yesterday.
