PHILADELPHIA – Gunnar Henderson isn’t on the injured list, and he isn’t in tonight’s lineup.
Henderson maintains his day-to-day status after leaving last night’s game in the eighth inning with discomfort in his lower back, the same issue he had on June 3 in San Francisco that kept him on the bench for a couple of games.
Jorge Mateo is playing shortstop and batting eighth. Ramón Urías is the third baseman.
Ryan McKenna is the center fielder, Jordan Westburg is at second base, and Adley Rutschman is serving as the designated hitter.
Ryan Mountcastle has registered a .455 average and 1.045 slugging percentage against fastballs from left-handers, compared to a .153 average and .222 slugging percentage from right-handers, per STATS. He’s the first baseman tonight.
Ryan O’Hearn is batting .352/.383/.593 (19-for-54) with three home runs and 12 RBIs in his last 18 games. His last two homers have come against left-handers, but he’s on the bench tonight.
Kyle Bradish has a 3.05 ERA and 1.130 WHIP in 18 starts, with only nine home runs surrendered in 97 1/3 innings. He’s strung together five quality starts in a row, with five runs in 32 1/3 innings.
Bradish has never faced the Phillies.
Right-handers hit .270 with a .432 slugging percentage against Bradish in his first 11 starts but are batting .175 with a .262 slugging percentage in the last seven, per STATS.
The Orioles lead the Rays by two games in the American League East and are trying for their 20th series win. Tampa Bay lost to the Marlins today.
Left-hander Ranger Suárez has made 13 starts and posted a 4.07 ERA and 1.397 WHIP in 73 innings. He’s surrendered only seven home runs.
Suárez had six quality starts in a row from May 30-June 27, allowing two runs or fewer. He’s posted a 6.14 ERA and 1.864 WHIP this month in four starts. He didn’t allow a hit against his curveball in June, but opponents are batting .353 and a .529 slugging percentage against it this month.
Left-handers are batting .196/.224/.321 against Suárez this season, and right-handers are batting .286/.356/.433.
Suárez started against the Orioles on Sept. 20, 2021 in Philadelphia and held them to two runs in six innings. They also faced him this year in a spring training game in Sarasota.
Bryce Harper has posted a .524 average when he’s ahead in the count and a .167 average when he’s behind.
Harper is batting .342/.407/.507 (25-for-73) with eight extra-base hits, nine RBIs and 14 runs scored in his last 20 games. He homered last night and scored twice.
