Henderson update and Orioles' lineup vs. Brewers

MILWAUKEE – Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson said he expects to be in Wednesday night’s lineup against the Brewers.

Henderson was removed from Saturday’s game in San Francisco with lower-back soreness and he didn’t play Sunday. Ramón Urías is playing third base tonight.

“It’s actually feeling pretty good today,” Henderson said. “It was just getting really tight and didn’t feel great bending forward, but doing activities today, just doing half the reps to see how it feels, and hopefully be in there tomorrow.”

Henderson figured he would be day-to-day and nothing more serious.

“It just progressively got worse after that train ride back from New York and just kept getting tight on me,” he said. “And then it got pretty unbearable the last game, and I was probably going to hurt the team more than help it at that point.”

This is Henderson’s first experience with back pain. He might be available off the bench.

“I’d like to think so,” he said. “I told him (manager Brandon Hyde) that if he needs me in an emergency, I’ll be there. But I’m hoping to be out there tomorrow.”

Josh Lester stayed with the club today with reliever Danny Coulombe returning from the bereavement list. The Orioles optioned Terrin Vavra, choosing the power that Lester can supply off the bench with Ryan O’Hearn in the lineup and the Orioles facing a succession of right-handed starters.

"I didn't really know what the situation was going to be," Lester said. "Kind of learned from my short stint last year (with the Tigers) to just kind of enjoy myself while I'm here, and for however long that may be. Could be the whole season, could be three days, but just to take advantage of playing in the big leagues. It's a dream that I'm accomplishing, obviously, and so just trying to enjoy my time here as much as possible and not think about the future as much."

Adam Frazier is leading off again tonight. Austin Hays is in left field and batting cleanup, followed by center fielder Aaron Hicks.

O'Hearn is the designated hitter.

The Brewers have won 10 of their 15 meetings with the Orioles since moving to the National League in 1998, including nine of the last 11 since 2008. The Orioles have won two of their nine games in Milwaukee during that span, with five losses in a row. The most recent victory was by a 7-6 score in May 2014.
