Homer-happy Jays hit three in 6-4 win over the O's

The team with the most homers in the Majors used the longball to beat the Orioles tonight. Despite being outhit 16-5, Toronto hit three homers in a 6-4 win over the Orioles in game one of the three-game series.

The Orioles are 0-7 in Toronto on the year and have lost 12 in a row and 21 of their last 23 games at Rogers Centre. The O's pulled to within two runs on Corey Patterson's pinch-hit, RBI double in the ninth and Jays manager Cito Gaston pulled closer Kevin Gregg. Jesse Carlson came on and got pinch-hitter Matt Wieters on a fly out to end the game as the O's stranded runners on second and third. Major League homer leader Jose Bautista connected twice off Chris Tillman with a solo shot in the 1st and a two-run blast in the 6th . It was his 51st and 52nd homers on the year and his 8th multi-homer game. Vernon Wells' two-run shot in the 4th broke a 1-1 tie. In 16 games on the season vs. Baltimore pitching, Bautista is batting .333-9-19. After walking 12 over his last two starts, Tillman walked just one tonight but gave up five runs and four hits and all three Jays homers. Tillman falls to 1-5, 6.56 in ten big league starts on the season. Winning pitcher Brett Cecil gave up 11 hits and three runs over 6 1/3 frames. The Orioles stranded 14 runners and left two men on base in five different innings. Nick Markakis went 3 for 5 with an RBI double while Nolan Reimold had three hits and an RBI. Brandon Snyder went 2 for 4 with an RBI and it was Snyder's first multi-hit game in the Majors. The O's are 3-13 on the year vs. Toronto and have been out-homered 30 to 7. The Orioles are now 29-19 under Buck Showalter and lost for the sixth time in the last 18 games. In game two of this series, Saturday at 1 p.m. Jeremy Guthrie (10-14, 3.92) pitches vs. Ricky Romero (13-9, 3.75).
