Hundley breaks up no-no, Pearce keeps producing (O's lose 5-3)

NEW YORK - Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda lost his no-hit bid, shutout and lead in the blink of an eye.

Nick Hundley doubled to right-center field leading off the top of the sixth inning - his sixth hit with the Orioles and his first for extra bases. Pitchers can threaten the Orioles with a no-hitter, but they can't carry through with it.

Steve Pearce doubled to left field with one out to tie the game, and he scored on Adam Jones' single to right field.

The Orioles go from being no-hit to taking a 2-1 lead.

Chris Davis also singled, but Kuroda retired the next two batters on fly balls.

In his last three games, Pearce is 5-for-10 with four doubles, a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Is that good?

Manager Buck Showalter wants to keep Pearce's bat in the lineup, which keeps David Lough on the bench and limits Delmon Young's starts. He doesn't have much choice. Pearce has earned the right to play every night.

Ubaldo Jimenez walked the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth before retiring Mark Teixeira on a ground ball to Davis. He's thrown 85 pitches heading to the bottom of the sixth.

Jimenez has allowed 12 runs in the fifth this season, his highest total in any inning. The Yankees couldn't add to it tonight.

Update: The Orioles have escaped three bases-loaded jams in six innings. How many times can they touch the hot stove?

Jimenez walked six batters in 5 2/3 innings, giving him 16 in his last three starts covering 14 innings. But he allowed only one run to go with six hits and three strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches, 53 for strikes.

T.J. McFarland had let seven of 11 inherited runners score before tonight, but he retired Brett Gardner on a bouncer up the middle. Ryan Flaherty made a terrific stop and flipped to J.J. Hardy covering second.

The Orioles still lead 2-1. Somehow, they still lead 2-1.

Update II: Carlos Beltran hit a three-run walk-off home run off Zach Britton with two outs in the ninth to give the Yankees a 5-3 win over the Orioles before 46,197.

Britton blew his second save, making him 9-for-11 this season. He had allowed one earned run in his last 22 games, but Brian McCann had an RBI single with two outs and Beltran hit his seventh home run of the season.

The Orioles failed to move four games above .500 for the first time since May 16, when they were 22-18.

McFarland retired all six batters he faced on ground balls, and Pearce had an RBI single in the ninth, making him 6-for-12 with five RBIs in his last three games.
