Infante's big day leads Kansas City past the O's in series finale

Omar Infante began today with just 11 RBIs this season, and he was only 1-for-8 in the first two games of this series. But the Kansas City second baseman had a huge day at the expense of the Orioles, driving in six runs as the Royals beat the O's 9-3 in front of 38,368 at Camden Yards. For the 10th time in 11 home games, the Orioles scored three or fewer runs. They've scored just 27 runs at the Yard this season. Infante had an RBI groundout in the first, a sac fly in the third, a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run homer off Evan Meek in the seventh. The six RBIs tied his career high. He now has three homers and 16 RBIs in his last 11 games at Camden Yards. O's losing pitcher Miguel Gonzalez gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, throwing 98 pitches. He falls to 1-2 with an ERA of 5.19. Kansas City scored four in the seventh off Meek to put the game away. Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer in the sixth off winning pitcher James Shields. Cruz, who had been 0-for-9 in the series, now has seven homers and 25 RBIs. He recently had 16 RBIs over a seven-game stretch. But the Orioles were held to six runs on 20 hits in this series after producing 21 runs on 26 hits in the last two games of the series at Toronto. Nick Markakis singled leading off the ninth for his 1,400th career hit. He is 10th on the club's all-time hits list. The Orioles are now 5-6 at home, 2-4 against non-AL East opponents and 12-12 for the season. After Monday's off-day, they'll host Pittsburgh on Tuesday night to start a two-game series.
