Jimenez knocked out in first inning (O's hit five homers, but lose 10-9)

TORONTO - Orioles right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez faced seven batters and got just one out. The Orioles trailed by five after an inning. Mark Trumbo was called out on batter interference in the top of the second.

Pounded 11-6 by Toronto on Saturday, Jimenez picked a bad time to have the shortest start of his career today. But it went this way - double, RBI double, RBI single, strikeout, single, RBI double, two-run double. At that point, Vance Worley came on and got two strikeouts to mercifully end the inning.

Over 1/3 of an inning, Jimenez allowed six hits and five runs with no walks and one strikeout. He threw 30 pitches, 17 for strikes. His ERA was 6.21 at gametime and is 6.89 now. His hold on a rotation spot has to be rather shaky at this point.

The previous shortest start of his career came on July 30, 2011 for Colorado at San Diego and that lasted just one inning.

In the Orioles second inning, Trumbo reached on an infield hit or at least appeared to. But home plate umpire Alan Porter called him out for interference on a throw that hit him. The call sure looked questionable as Trumbo headed back to the dugout.

With two outs in the inning, three straight singles by Pedro Alvarez, Jonathan Schoop and Ryan Flaherty got the Orioles on the board. Flaherty's eighth RBI made it a 5-1 game.

But it didn't take long for Toronto to score again. With two outs in the second, Edwin Encarnacion doubled. He would steal third and cruise home on Matt Wieters' throwing error for a 6-1 lead.

Since the 10th inning Friday night, Encarnacion has had eight plate appearances. In that span he is 6-for-6 with two walks, three doubles, two homers and seven RBIs.

Power display at Rogers Centre: The Orioles were behind 7-1 after three innings today but they have gotten back in this game with a stunning power display at Rogers Centre.

Pedro Alvarez hit a solo homer in the fourth and it was 7-2. Then the Orioles blasted three homers in the fifth in a span of six batters to pull within 7-6.

Adam Jones crushed a solo shot to start the inning into the second deck in left-center field. After Manny Machado's one-out double, Chris Davis homered to left and it was 7-5. For Davis that is a homer in five consecutive games. One out later, Matt Wieters homered to left and it was 7-6. Three homers and four runs in one inning off Aaron Sanchez.

The last Oriole to homer in five straight games was Caleb Joseph from Aug. 2 to Aug. 9, 2014. Davis is the last to homer in six in a row from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, 2012.

Sanchez, meanwhile, had allowed four home runs in 12 starts and 80 1/3 innings this year coming into today's game. Today he allowed four home runs in five innings.

Now down by four again: Russell Martin hit a three-run homer in the sixth off Mychal Givens and the Blue Jays lead is four runs at 10-6. Givens walked two and Martin hit No. 5 on a 1-1 pitch. Toronto has scored 21 runs the past two games and 30 runs in this series.

Do the Orioles have a second comeback in them today?

It's a final: The Orioles kept mashing home runs but it could not overcome all the runs their pitchers gave up. The Orioles lost 10-9 today at Toronto to lose the last three games of this series after winning here on Thursday night.

Down 10-8 going to the ninth, the O's loaded the bases with one out against Jason Grilli. Pedro Alvarez drilled one deep to right but Ezequiel Carrera made a leaping catch near the wall. It went for a sac fly and it was 10-9. But with runners on first and third, Grilli fanned Jonathan Schoop on three pitches to get the win.

Jones hit a two-run homer in the eighth to pull the O's within 10-8. He hit two of the Orioles five homers today for his 10^th career multi-homer game. The Orioles scored 24 runs in this series, but won just one game as they gave up 30 runs, 21 the last two days.

The O's hit five homers today, 12 in this series and they have hit 30 over the last 11 games.

Now they take Monday off and head to Boston for the series opener Tuesday with a record of 36-26 and three-game losing streak.
