Jimenez will pitch in relief (O's lose 7-2)

CHICAGO - For the second time in his major league career, Ubaldo Jimenez will be used as a reliever. Jimenez is warming up for the Orioles, who trail the Cubs 4-2 in the top of the third inning at Wrigley Field. Right-hander Justin Grimm will pitch for the Cubs. jimenez-back-gray-pitching-sidebar.jpgThe game is scheduled to resume at 5:30 p.m. central time following a rain delay that will exceed three hours. Jimenez hasn't pitched in relief since making his major league debut on Sept. 26, 2006 against the Dodgers. He allowed two hits in a scoreless eighth inning. I'll save you the math. That's 231 starts for Jimenez in between relief appearances. Jimenez was sent to the bullpen after going 4-9 with a 4.83 ERA in 20 starts. He continues to lead the American League with 66 walks. Bud Norris goes two innings today in his shortest outing of the season. He allowed four runs and four hits - all in the second - with one walk and four strikeouts. Norris threw 58 pitches, 38 strikes. He gave up a two-out, three-run double to Chris Coghlan, who was 0-for-15 with six strikeouts against him. Norris also had an RBI single in the second inning. Update: Jimenez allowed one run and three hits in four innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 75 pitches, 44 for strikes. The Cubs scored in the sixth on a two-out single by Chris Valaika. Jimenez issued his only walk to start the inning. Cord Phelps pinch-hit for Jimenez and grounded into a double play to end the top of the seventh. Tommy Hunter is pitching. Update II: Javier Baez led off the seventh with an opposite-field home run off Hunter to give Chicago a 6-2 lead. The Orioles are in danger of losing back-to-back games for the second time on this trip. It hadn't happened since June 28-29 against the Rays. Update III: The Orioles lose to the Cubs 7-2 before 37,156 at Wrigley Field. Hunter allowed two runs in two innings after replacing Jimenez. The Orioles had two hits after the rain delay, which lasted 3 hours, 9 minutes. The Orioles are 73-54 overall, 4-4 on the road trip and 18-24 in day games. They lead the Yankees by seven games and the Blue Jays by eight in the American League East.
