Jonathan Schoop to DL, Jimmy Paredes activated

BOSTON - Jonathan Schoop has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a partially torn PCL and sprained MCL in his right knee, and Jimmy Paredes has been activated from the DL to take his place on the 25-man roster.

Schoop's ACL is clean and he won't undergo surgery to repair the Grade 1 PCL tear. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he feels confident that the second baseman will be back this season. Schoop will rehab in Sarasota.

Schoop was involved in two bumpy incidents in Friday's game at Fenway Park - he took a hard slide from Pablo Sandoval at second base and he later tripped over first base. The Orioles say he suffered the injury falling over the base and not from the slide.

Schoop said he has never had a knee injury before. He said he feels no pain, but stiffness. He's confident he will play again this season.

The 23-year-old Schoop is batting .259/.310/.630 with three homers and seven RBIs in nine games.

Paredes was on the DL with a lower back strain. He was the surprise of spring training, putting himself in position to win a job by batting .364/.368/.636 with seven doubles, a triple, two homers and 12 RBIs, while playing improved defense in 24 exhibition games.
