Jones helps Negro Leagues Museum (Tied, 2-2)

KANSAS CITY - Orioles outfielder Adam Jones will tour and visit the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City here on Saturday. Jones will be joined by Major League Baseball Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick.

As part of his visit, Jones will bestow a $20,000 personal contribution to the museum. Jones will also formally announce that he will provide free museum admission to children from Operation Breakthrough, a local nonprofit that offers full-day early learning and child care for children through age 5, as well as before-and-after-school and full-day summer activities for children ages 5 through 13.

In honor of his contribution, the Major League Baseball Players Trust will provide a memorable experience for Operation Breakthrough children on July 18, when Players Trust ambassador Judy Pace Flood, Curt Flood's widow, and MLBPA special assistant Jeffrey Hammonds host the group at the museum.

"It's about the game of baseball, about the Negro Leagues side of it, their point of view,"Jones said this afternoon. "The things that they didn't have as much as everybody else, the things that they didn't care about as much as everybody else, just the sheer game of baseball. You walk through those doors, such a love for baseball that it's contagious.

"It's all about the knowledge. It's all about giving knowledge, give kids opportunities. It's all about what they want to do with the opportunity," Jones said.

As for today's game: Kansas City scored once in the first and the Orioles once in the second, and the clubs are tied 1-1 in the fourth at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals produced some hard contact off Dylan Bundy in the last of the first after the O's stranded two runners to start the game. Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain smoked back-to-back doubles to get K.C. the lead. Moustakas drove a Bundy pitch at 112 mph off the bat to right. Cain followed by driving a ball 109 mph to left.

The O's got even in the top of the second. With some help from right fielder Jorge Soler, J.J. Hardy came up with his first triple since June 5, 2012, and the first of the season for the Orioles. He lined a ball to right that should have been a single. Soler charged in and dove as the ball got by him and Hardy made it to third. The next batter, Caleb Joseph, doubled to left-center for a 1-1 tie.

Royals get lead: Brandon Moss hit a Bundy 91 mph fastball 456 feet to right-center for a homer leading off the fifth, and K.C. leads the Orioles 2-1. Bundy had not allowed a hit since the first until Moss connected.

Tied up: The O's tied it 2-2 in the seventh. Joseph doubled for the second time in the game to start the inning. He advanced to third on Craig Gentry's sac bunt and scored on a Duffy wild pitch.

Bundy was pulled after six innings and a season-high 112 pitches. He allowed four hits and two runs and tied his season high with eight strikeouts. He will not get a decision, but he pitched well yet again and delivered his eighth straight quality start to begin the season. Mychal Givens came on to replace him.
