Jones bothered by soreness and swelling in ankle

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones is out of today's lineup due to soreness and swelling in his left ankle.

Jones rolled the ankle during an awkward slide at home plate in the third inning of Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox. He played last night.

Manager Buck Showalter doesn't know whether Jones will return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Rays.

Jones-Awkward-Slide.jpg"I took it out of his hands," Showalter said. "I'm not saying he couldn't Kirk Gibson it. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

"Any time Adam admits to a little soreness, you can probably multiply it by two."

The last time Jones was missing from the lineup was Sept. 26 in Toronto.

Still no word on whether Bud Norris will make his next start. Showalter wasn't able to meet with him following last night's game, so they're supposed to talk this afternoon.

Showalter said he won't go with a six-man rotation once Norris is activated.

"The problem with no off-days is there's not a whole lot of tweaking you can do," Showalter said.

As for whether Norris is inserted into the Orioles rotation, Showalter said that's the current plan, "but things change day to day depending on the needs of our ballclub."

Showalter said Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia, on the disabled list retroactive to May 11 with right shoulder tendinitis, is "doing well" in his progression. He hasn't experienced any setbacks.
