K-Rod leaves game with injury (Johnson serves up HR, O's lose 6-3)

Orioles reliever Francisco Rodriguez gave up a home run in the eighth inning tonight and left the game with an undisclosed injury after retiring the next batter. Rodriguez appeared to hurt himself while warming up, but he continued to pitch. Charlie Blackmon, who replaced Charlie Culberson in left field, led off with a home run onto Eutaw Street to increase Colorado's lead to 5-2. Dexter Fowler lined a single into right field, and Rodriguez limped to the dugout with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells at his side. Bancells also came onto the field after Rodriguez warmed up. My guess is Rodriguez tweaked his groin. We'll find out. Rodriguez had allowed two hits, walked one and struck out nine over five scoreless innings in his last five appearances. He's now surrendered five home runs with the Orioles. Rodriguez had a strikeout and induced a fly ball after replacing starter Wei-Yin Chen in the seventh. Darren O'Day replaced Rodriguez. Blackmon's home run is the 73rd to land on Eutaw Street and the seventh this year. It's the 44th by an opponent - the sixth this year - and the first ever by a Colorado player. Update: Rodriguez exited with a strained right groin. We could have a roster move on Saturday. Jim Johnson is warming in the Orioles' bullpen. He's going to pitch the ninth. It just won't be a save situation. Update II: Johnson was greeted by a smattering of boos as he walked onto the field, and they grew louder when Todd Helton homered to right field with one out to give Colorado a 6-2 lead. Johnson has allowed five home runs this season, including two in his last three appearances. Johnson retired the other three batters he faced on two ground balls and a strikeout. Helton has homered in 34 different ballparks. Update III: Matt Wieters homered to center field with one out in the ninth inning, his 17th of the season, but the Orioles lost to the Rockies 6-3 at Camden Yards. The Orioles didn't have a hit after the third inning until Wieters homered. The Orioles have dropped four in a row.
