Krol and Walters likely to lead list of September call-ups

Manager Davey Johnson gave out some information on who might be called up from Triple- A Syracuse when rosters are expanded on Sept. 1. "We will probably (call up) three pitchers and probably call up four or five position players," Johnson said. "Pitchers we may bring earlier than position players. I think their season is over on (Sept.) 2nd. We can have them here expanded roster on (Sept.) 1. I would like to have them here for Sunday's game." He said that Ian Krol will be one of the pitchers, adding that all three pitchers have pitched with the Nationals this year. That means Erik Davis and Xavier Cedeno are likely the other candidates. "I know all of them," Johnson said. "I have seen them. There is nobody that would be coming up that hasn't played for me before. Your call-ups reward people for good years." The position players could include outfielders Corey Brown, Jeff Kobernus and Eury Perez, plus first baseman Chris Marrero. The one player that is not on the 40-man roster but has had a big season is shortstop Zach Walters. Johnson hinted that Walters would also get a shot. "He is certainly deserving," Johnson said. "And I would like to see him come up." Walters is batting .256, with 32 doubles, five triples, 29 homers and 77 RBIs in 133 games. The doubles, homers and RBIs are all career highs for the University of San Diego product.
