Lindstrom will be activated tomorrow

Reliever Matt Lindstrom is in the clubhouse, but he's not on the 25-man roster. The Orioles have decided to activate Lindstrom from the disabled list tomorrow. They want him to do some long-tossing today. Left-hander Dana Eveland is expected to rejoin the team later tonight, but the Orioles aren't short-handed in the bullpen because Tommy Hunter is available in relief. Eveland's wife gave birth to a boy, Asher Perry, late Saturday night. Adding Eveland and Lindstrom to the 'pen will require a roster move. Manager Buck Showalter must decide whether to eliminate a pitcher or go with a three-man bench. The Orioles have 13 straight games before the All-Star break, and Showalter wants to avoid making another roster move while they're on the West Coast. The starters for the Indians series that begins Thursday are listed as Wei-Yin Chen, Jake Arrieta, TBA and Brian Matusz. Hunter is one candidate to start on Saturday. It's less likely that the Orioles bring up a pitcher from Triple-A Norfolk, though that possibility hasn't been completely dismissed. Miguel Gonzalez would be working on normal rest after starting yesterday for the Tides. Nick Markakis isn't expected to pick up a bat before Friday. He no longer has soreness in his right wrist and the incision is almost closed. The plan calls for Markakis to take some dry swings with a fungo bat on Friday before hitting off a tee and taking batting practice. He'll go on a rehab assignment before being activated, and Showalter doesn't expect him back before the series in Anaheim that begins July 5 and leads into the break. According to Showalter, Nolan Reimold believes his injury that led to disc surgery yesterday at Johns Hopkins Hospital was caused by tumbling into the stands in Chicago. Outfielder Endy Chavez isn't making much progress in his return from a strained hamstring. He's still in Sarasota and not doing much better. Catcher Taylor Teagarden is ready to go on a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League team, but games have been rained out the past few days. Showalter said Teagarden could be activated from the DL after the All-Star break. More transactions for Norfolk: Infielder Brandon Waring was promoted from Double-A Bowie and catcher Scott Thomas was promoted from Single-A Frederick. Catcher Zach Booker was placed on the disabled list. Former Orioles farmhand John Hester is starting behind the plate tonight for the Angels.
