SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini isn't making the two-day trip to the East Coast due to flu-like symptoms that he can't shake.
Mancini said he's going to be fine, but advised a couple of reporters to keep their distance from him. He quipped that they didn't want the details.
Manager Brandon Hyde removed Mancini after two at-bats yesterday because he "isn't feeling great."
Mancini is 4-for-14 with two RBIs in five Grapefruit League games.
Rather than take every position player on the trip, the Orioles decided to send a second bus to Jupiter on Wednesday for the 1:05 p.m. game against the Marlins. Some players in West Palm for this afternoon's game against the Nationals will return to the Sarasota complex.
The group that stayed in camp today includes Austin Hays, Renato Núñez, Dwight Smith Jr., Stevie Wilkerson, Andrew Velazquez, Dilson Herrera, Pat Valaika, Chance Sisco and Austin Wynns. DJ Stewart also is here, but he hasn't been cleared to play following his October ankle surgery.
Pitchers who are working out in camp today include Dean Kremer, Mychal Givens, Richard Bleier, David Hess, Eric Hanhold, Branden Kline, Hunter Cervenka, Travis Lakins, Shawn Armstrong, Rob Zastryzny, Tanner Scott, Thomas Eshelman and Marcos Diplán.
Starters who aren't throwing in West Palm or Jupiter also stayed at the complex.
Kohl Stewart, who hasn't been able to pitch due to biceps soreness, is on the field again today for workouts and nearing his debut.
Left-hander Tommy Milone is throwing today in Sarasota instead of making the start against the Nationals.
The pitchers listed today behind left-hander Ty Blach include Cody Carroll, Miguel Castro, Paul Fry, Michael Rucker, Dillon Tate and Cristian Alvarado.
Left-hander Wade LeBlanc starts Wednesday against the Marlins. He's in Sarasota this morning.
