Manny Machado and Bud Norris comment after O's win over New York

The Orioles have gone from a season-worst six games under .500 to one game over after winning six straight and eight of their last nine games. After tonight's 9-4 win over New York, Manny Machado talked about the chance the Orioles have now to sweep Boston and New York in back-to-back series.

"It's good, but we have to keep grinding though," Machado said. "It's a long season ahead of us and this is just a step on the road. We have to keep playing the right way and leave it on the field.

"Feels good. Keep it rolling. We finally have pieces coming back and team is playing well. Finally playing as a team. Excited to have everyone on the field healthy and playing."

Machado had a two-run homer and two-run single as part of a 3-for-5 night with four RBIs that tied his career high.

Machado is batting .467/.484/.800 over a seven-game hitting streak. He is batting .316 over his last 48 games with 22 extra-base hits and 18 multi-hit games.

What has keyed his offense?

"Just keep playing baseball. Keep it nice and simple. Don't try to do too much, that is my mindset right now. I'm feeling good and seeing the ball well. Have to keep it rolling," he said.

On Sunday, the Orioles will look for their first three-game home sweep of New York since June 28-30, 2013.

"They are on top and it's good to get these two and we have one more tomorrow and we have to keep fighting and battling," Machado said. "You know what, we're just going to leave it on the field and not think about it. That is the only thing we can control is how we prepare ourselves."

Bud Norris gave up two runs in the first inning tonight and then retired 13 of 14 hitters before running into trouble again in the sixth. On the night, he gave up four runs over 5 2/3 innings.

"We won - that was great. I loved it," Norris said. "I felt like I found a groove in the middle innings there. Tough inning in the sixth and Buck (Showalter) made a decision to go to the 'pen and we got out of it. Nice win, so let's sweep the series tomorrow."

Norris was asked what Matt Wieters' return has meant for the team and also talked about the bullpen pitching so well right now.

"You can't underestimate the kind of player he is and how smart he is and what he brings to the lineup," Norris said. "He's a special player and I'm getting my first real glimpse of it.

"It was the same thing last year (with the bullpen). We had a bunch of guys down there that got the job done. We have a bunch of staples With Darren (O'Day), (Zach) Britton and Tommy (Hunter). Then guys come from Norfolk and they embrace them right away. We feel special to pass off the ball to them."

Norris was asked about Showalter moving into sole possession of third on the O's all-time managerial wins list at 408, one ahead of Hank Bauer.

"He knows what he is doing and at 7:05 (p.m.), there is no one I'd rather have back there," Norris said.

The Orioles have recorded 15 or more hits in three straight home games against the Yankees for the first time in team history.
