Manny Machado homers twice, but O's fall to Cleveland 7-3

The Orioles got some early offense going against two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber, who had allowed just one run in his last two starts combined. But it would not be enough today.

Orioles right-hander Andrew Cashner allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings - the exact numbers as Chris Tillman Saturday - as Cleveland beat the Orioles 7-3 in front of 27,394 at Camden Yards.

With their 10th loss in 12 games, the Orioles fall to 6-16 for the season. They are 3-6 at home, scoring 18 runs in nine games.

Manny Machado hit two more homers for the Orioles. He started the day two behind AL leader Mike Trout and then connected for solo homers in the first and fourth off Kluber. Machado hit Nos. 7 and 8 for his third multi-homer game of the season and 17th of his career. He has hit five homers over his past four games. Machado also extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Pending other games later today, Machado is currently tied for the MLB lead with eight homers with Bryce Harper of the Nationals and Trout of the Angels.

His first homer provided a 1-0 lead but Cleveland scored twice in the fourth to lead 2-1 on a Jose Ramirez solo homer and Yonder Alonso's RBI double.

The O's scored two in their half of the fourth to reclaim a 3-2 lead. Machado's second homer of the day was a 410-foot shot to center for the 2-2 tie. They moved ahead when Chris Davis poked an RBI single through the shift on the right side. It scored Adam Jones who doubled to right for his fifth double in the last four games.

Cashner could not produce a shutdown inning in the top of the fifth though and Cleveland went ahead 4-3. The inning started when Cashner walked No. 9 hitter Rajai Davis, who went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Francisco Lindor's single. Later in the frame Michael Brantley's RBI single to right provided Cleveland the 4-3 lead.

Cashner had pitched to an ERA of 1.80 his previous three starts but today allowed two walks with seven strikeouts. He falls to 1-3 with an ERA of 3.60. He threw 112 pitches, his most since 117 on Sept. 11, 2015 for San Diego at San Francisco.

Kluber got the win, allowing three runs over seven innings and is 3-1 with an ERA of 1.96. Cleveland pitchers have allowed just 29 runs the last 14 games.

Cleveland added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth when Ramirez hit his second homer. His two-run shot to right off Brad Brach made it 6-3. It was the seventh career multi-homer game for Ramirez. Yan Gomes' RBI double scored the game's final run.
