Marlins-Nats postponed due to rain (Zimmermann to pitch Wednesday)

The Marlins-Nationals game for Tuesday night has been postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date has been set. Manager Matt Williams should be available to update this week's pitching matchups, so stay tuned here. Tuesday's matchup was intended to be right-hander Blake Treinen facing Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez, and Wednesday's pitching matchup was supposed to be right-hander Jordan Zimmermann versus the Marlins Tom Koehler. Update: Williams announced that Zimmermann would start Wednesday's game, and Treinen will be available out of the bullpen. "We will stay on our normal rotation from tomorrow on," Williams said. What was the reasoning behind keeping Zimmermann on his normal day? "Just that ... Jordan is on normal rest and to push everybody back," Williams said. "We had to do that with some off-days earlier in the month but would like to keep them on normal rest. And Blake getting his feet wet here, and he has got experience in the bullpen so we can do that for the next couple of days until his turn comes up again." Williams also confirmed that they will not have a doubleheader Wednesday. "We are looking at dates now, but it is not going to happen during this series," Williams said. "They come in again later in the year so it is not going to happen, either tomorrow doubleheader or on Thursday the off-day. So we will look to push that." The Marlins come to D.C. one more time, the very last series of the season on September 26-28. So that means the Friday, Sept. 26 game is likely going to turn into a day-night doubleheader. There is a 65 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms during the day Wednesday, so it appears scheduling a doubleheader tomorrow would also have been problematic. The Nationals also did not want to mess with their scheduled day off Thursday. Update II: The Marlins announced that Tuesday's scheduled pitcher, Henderson Alvarez will go Wednesday and Tom Koehler will be moved to their Friday home game against the Braves.
