Marrero and Mattheus look good in Harrisburg, other minors notes

First baseman Chris Marrero had a nice debut with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators on Wednesday. Marrero went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in game two of a double dip. Marrero is now batting .450 (9-for-20) with three doubles, one homer and four RBIs in seven minor league rehab games as he recovers from a torn left hamstring in winter ball. Reliever Ryan Mattheus pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out one. Mattheus is returning from plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Starter Daniel Rosenbaum allowed eight hits in four innings, three runs, one earned with one walk and three strikeouts for a no-decision. A club source says the high hit total is nothing to be concerned about, saying, "that's baseball, a lot of soft contact." Harrisburg split a doubleheader with Erie, winning 8-7 and losing 8-2. High Single-A Potomac was swept in Winston-Salem 6-5 and 5-3. Justin Bloxom crushed his league-leading 12th homer of the season for Potomac, coming in the sixth inning of the nightcap. Left-hander Robbie Ray struck out six over five innings, but took the loss, allowing four runs in the third. Shortstop Jason Martinson smacked his 10th homer of the season in low Single-A Hagerstown's 5-3 setback to Hickory. Martinson is at .277, while outfielders Steven Souza, Jr. and Billy Burns are batting .314 for the Suns. Brian Goodwin had his 11th stolen base. Triple-A Syracuse and Lehigh Valley were postponed due to inclement weather. The short-season Single-A Auburn Doubledays are assembling their roster, which will be full of recent signings from this year's draft. I will have a rundown for you very soon.
