The Orioles have been busy with minor matters today.
Shortly after trading catcher Johnny Monell to the Dodgers for cash considerations, the Orioles announced that reliever Evan Meek has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk.
Meek cleared waivers after going 1-0 with a 5.59 ERA in eight games and 9 2/3 innings with the Tides.
Meek didn't allow a run in his first eight appearances with the Orioles, but was optioned on May 1 after permitting nine runs and 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings over four outings. He was recalled on May 15 and designated off the 25-man roster the following day.
With today's move, Meek comes off the 40-man roster and leaves the Orioles with an opening.
Norfolk catcher Zach Booker was activated from the minor league disabled list today and left-hander Jason Gurka was transferred to Double-A Bowie. The Tides have three catchers on their roster, including Steve Clevenger and Brian Ward.
Obviously, they had no room for Monell.
