The Mesa Solar Sox evened their record at 5-5 on Saturday with an 8-4 victory over Salt River in Arizona Fall League play from Cubs Park.
Left-hander Felipe Rivero notched his first win of the campaign, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and striking out two batters to improve to 1-2. He threw 62 pitches, 35 for strikes.
Teammate Derek Self piggy-backed the start with his second hold, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks and striking out one. Self twirled 33 pitches, 18 for strikes.
Rivero and Self combined for 95 pitches, 53 for strikes.
Rivero defeated right-hander Archie Bradley (0-2), the seventh overall selection in the First-Year Player Draft and the Diamondbacks' No. 2 overall prospect.
The Solar Sox, who feature players from the Nationals system, raced out to an 8-3 lead after four innings. Catcher Pedro Severino provided a sac fly RBI.
Second baseman Tony Renda had his biggest hit of the fall, a two-out two-run triple that catapulted the Sox to an early 3-0 advantage.
All three of his hits have been for extra bases, with the other two base knocks doubles.
Matt Grace got into the game as a reliever later on, recording five outs and allowing no runs, no hits and with one walk..
The Solar Sox will look to go above .500 on Monday when they face off against Surprise at 3:35 p.m.
