Minor league notes on Britton, Bridwell, Walker and more

Two more games - and two more games with hits on Saturday - for Triple-A Norfolk's Buck Britton. The older brother of Zach Britton, Buck Britton extended his career-high batting streak to 19 games yesterday against Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Britton is batting .366 (26-for-71) during the streak with one homer and eight RBIs. He is batting .304 in 38 games this season with the Tides, and his hitting streak is the longest in the International League this year. Britton, who is batting .354 in June, has shown his defensive versatility by playing three different positions during the streak. He has primarily been playing second base, but has also started at first base and in left field during those 19 games. Last night, the Double-A Bowie Baysox came to bat in the last of the fourth, trailing Altoona 8-0, but the Baysox rallied to win 10-9, pulling off their biggest comeback of the year. Kyle Hudson had three hits and three RBIs while Ty Kelly and Aaron Baker added two RBIs each. Nolan Reimold went 0-for-3 with two walks and two strikeouts in that Baysox win. Reimold is now 1-for-17 with seven strikeouts in five games on his injury-rehab assignment with Bowie. Reimold had a two-run single Friday for his only hit with the Baysox, and he had a sac fly the night before. Single-A Delmarva's Parker Bridwell pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings last night at Perdue Stadium as the Shorebirds beat Asheville. Over his last two starts, Bridwell has thrown 14 2/3, allowing 10 hits and one run with one walk and 17 strikeouts. He has lowered his ERA from 6.22 to 5.04 in those two games. Single-A Frederick beat Myrtle Beach 13-3 Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys hit three homers and set a season-high in runs scored in front of 9,477, the biggest crowd of the season. Frederick first baseman Christian Walker went 2-for-4 in that win to break out of a long slump. In the previous nine games, Walker had gone 1-for-31, dropping his average from .358 to .286. The two hits Saturday raised his average to .292. The short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds picked up their first win last night, 5-4 in 10 innings at Brooklyn, after an 0-5 start. Aberdeen third baseman Hector Veloz had two more hits in that win. Veloz, the 19-year-old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has five hits in his last two games. In six Aberdeen games so far, he is 11-for-23 with two doubles, a homer and six RBIs. He has hit safely in each game of the season with three multi-hit games for the IronBirds. Veloz is 8-for-13 vs. left-handed pitching, and he is 4-for-7 when batting with runners in scoring position. Orioles second round draft pick, California high school catcher Chance Sisco, made his pro debut in the Gulf Coast League on Saturday as the GCL Orioles beat the Rays 9-5. Sisco went 2-for-4 with an RBI single as the DH batting seventh. The GCL O's have split their first two games.
