More minor league signings

In their never-ending quest to improve the depth in their farm system, the Orioles have signed three players with major league experience to minor league contracts: relievers Rob Delaney and Manny Delcarmen, and outfielder Chris Pettit. The contracts don't include spring training invites, according to a team official. Delaney, 28, appeared in one game with the Twins in 2010 and four with the Rays in 2011, allowing seven runs and six hits in six innings, with eight walks and three strikeouts. He went 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA in 44 games at Triple-A New Orleans last season. Delaney is 29-22 with a 2.71 ERA in 337 games over parts of seven minor league seasons. Delcarmen, 30, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2010. He's 11-8 with a 3.97 ERA in six seasons, mostly spent with the Red Sox, who selected him in the second round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft. Delcarmen was 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 39 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. Pettit, 28, had seven plate appearances with the Angels in 2009, and he appeared in one game in 2011. He's 2-for-7 with two runs scored. His first major league hit, on Sept. 29, 2009, came against Pedro Strop. Small world. Pettit played in the Mariners and Rockies organizations last year and posted a .282/.354/.454 line with Double-A Jackson, Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs. He has a career .364 on-base percentage in six minor league seasons. Pettit, a right-handed hitter chosen by the Angels in the 19th round of the 2006 draft, can play all three outfield positions and first base. Baseball America's Matt Eddy first reported the three signings. Also, here's a reminder that the March 25 exhibition game between the Orioles and Red Sox at 1 p.m. in Sarasota will air on ESPN. The network sent out an e-mail earlier today.
