More promotions to come from Hagerstown?

Low Single-A Hagerstown's pitching staff was acknowledged with the recent news that right-handers Alex Meyer and Aaron Barrett will be promoted to high Single-A Potomac on Thursday. Shortstop Jason Martinson was promoted on the offensive side earlier this season. It is likely that some of the tremendous offensive talent on his former team in Hagerstown will be bumped up to join him in Potomac very soon. There are several candidates who could get the promotion, including third baseman Matt Skole and outfielders Steven Souza Jr., Caleb Ramsey and Brian Goodwin. Skole, who has been slowed by a hand injury since July 8, had a scorching first half at the plate. His average is .280, with 14 doubles, 21 homers and 73 RBIs through 83 games. Souza has been on a recent tear that has been unmatched. Souza is hitting .290 with 20 doubles, two triples, 17 homers and 72 RBIs. Ramsey has had a great year and a half, rolling up from the short-season Single-A Auburn Doubledays to Hagerstown. Ramsey is hitting .287 with nine doubles, seven triples, five homers and 46 RBIs in 86 games. And then there is the electrifying Goodwin, who had his season delayed with an early quad injury. Now the speedster is making it happen with all his baseball tools. Goodwin is batting .324 with 18 doubles, one triple, nine homers, 15 stolen bases and 38 RBIs in 58 games. There is a very good chance at least two of these players will join Meyer and Barrett with Potomac as early as this week. They certainly deserve the shot with their play.
