More winter league updates for Nats prospects

Checking in on Erik Davis' season, we saw the incredible numbers he is putting up for Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Winter League. One of his fellow members of the Nationals organization, left-hander Patrick McCoy has put together a nice run for Gigantes the last week and a half. McCoy has allowed just one run in the past 10 games, a span of seven innings. He has given up six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks since Nov. 6. Overall, he is 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in 14 appearances, allowing three runs on 12 hits in 8 1/3 innings, striking out eight and surrendering three walks. McCoy was 7-3 with a 3.70 ERA in 58 1/3 innings with 60 strikeouts, 18 walks and nine homers in 50 games for Double-A Harrisburg. Right-hander Tanner Roark was in the Venezuelan Winter League with Bravos de Margarita. He pitched in six games, going 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA. He also is pitching for Ponce in Puerto Rico. This season, Roark went 6-17 with a 4.39 ERA in 26 starts for Triple-A Syracuse. Right-hander Hassan Pena is appearing in the Mexican Pacific League and doing well. His last 10 games, Pena has surrendered only two earned runs, posting a 1.86 ERA. He has 13 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings. Overall in 16 games, Pena is 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA. Third baseman Zach Walters is playing for Leones de Ponce in Puerto Rico. Walters is hitting .189 with two doubles and two RBIs in 10 games. Even though Walters' offensive numbers are not jumping off the board right now, this experience is really about getting at-bats (34) and games. And he has played games. With the 126 games Walters played on three levels in 2012, he has now played 136 games this season. That full-season experience and the diversity of pitching Walters has faced will pay dividends for the 23-year old this spring.
