Nationals draft selections for Rounds 16 through 33

Following the selection of center fielder William Ballou in the 15th round, the Nationals picked another center fielder in the 16th round. At No. 496, the Nationals picked Willie Allen out of Western Oklahoma State College. The 6-foot-2, 191-pounder, is in his second season at the JuCo level, and throws and bats right-handed. In the 17th round, the Nationals selected catcher Geoffrey Perrott out of Rice University. The 22-year-old batted .271 in 57 games, with nine doubles, one triple, one homer and 16 RBIs. He walked 17 times and was hit by pitch 14 times for an on-base percentage of .371. He earned two varsity letters in football for Kingwood High School. The Owls are currently in the NCAA super regionals against N.C. State. In the 18th round, the Nationals grabbed senior left-hander Cory Bafidis from Texas Wesleyan. In the 19th round, the Nats selected left-hander Niko Spezial out of Wake Forest. As a senior, Spezial went 6-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 23 appearances. He had 22 strikeouts to 13 walks in 28 2/3 innings. He was drafted by the Pirates (32nd round) out of high school in 2009. In the 20th round, the Nationals picked Brenton Allen, a left fielder out of UCLA. The junior batted .247 in 38 games with five extra-base hits and 13 RBIs for the Bruins this season. Allen bats and throws left handed. UCLA is taking on Cal State-Fullerton in the NCAA super regionals. In the 21st round, the Nationals selected left-hander Justin Thomas from Southern Arkansas. In the 22nd round, the Nationals chose shortstop Cody Dent from the University of Florida. Dent hit .169 in 52 games with three doubles, two stolen bases and 13 RBIs. He has been on the Southeastern Conference academic honor roll each season with the Gators. In the 23rd round, the Nationals went for right fielder Garrett Gordon out of Wabash Valley College in Illinois. In the 24th round, the Nationals selected right-hander Matthew Derosier from Southwestern College in California. In the 25th round, the Nationals picked left-hander Travis Ott out of Shippensburg Area High School in Pennsylvania. In the 26th round, the Nationals chose shortstop Garrett Hampson from Reno High School in Nevada. Hampson started for his high school basketball team and is considered a top athlete with plus running skills. He has committed to Long Beach State. In the 27th round, the Nationals picked right fielder Bryce Harman from L.C. Bird High School in Virginia. He also is a left-handed pitcher who topped out at 90 mph. Harman has committed to East Carolina. He has the correct first name to play in the Nationals system. In rounds 28 through 32, the Nationals selected left-hander Joey Webb from Menlo College in California, right-hander Michael Sylvestri from Florida Atlantic, right-hander Ryan Ullmann out of Concordia University in Texas, shortstop Willie Medina from High Point University and left-hander Pat Boling out of the University of Georgia. In the 33rd round, the Nationals selected right-hander Andrew Dunlap, who was clocked with a 96 mph fastball at a February showcase. He has been seen by scouts at the Texas Baseball Ranch, made famous by Trevor Bauer. He is committed to Rice University.
