Nationals strike first against Giants (Nats lose 10-3, win streak ends at 10)

The Nationals have had a tough go of it against Tim Hudson over the years. In June, he dropped the Nationals 7-1, limiting them to no earned runs over seven innings.

The Nationals looked to get off to a quick start against the veteran in the bottom of the first. With one out, Anthony Rendon walked. With two outs, Adam LaRoche singled.

With Ian Desmond at the plate, catcher Buster Posey looked to catch LaRoche stealing at second on the back end of a double steal. Second baseman Joe Panik could not field the throw and the ball rolled into the outfield.

Rendon came around to score and LaRoche was safe at second, and the Nationals lead 1-0. The double steal created the mistake, allowing the Nationals to jump out early against a hurler who has 17 career wins against them.

Doug Fister has tossed two scoreless innings. The Nationals lead the Giants 1-0 heading to the bottom of the second.

Update: In the second, Bryce Harper singled but later was caught off first by Posey. In the third, Denard Span made a spctacular diving catch of a Angel Pagan liner to end the inning.

After 2 1/2 innings, the Nationals lead 1-0 over the Giants.

Update II: The fourth inning was unkind to Fister. With two outs, Pablo Sandoval and Michael Morse with back-to-back singles. Panik then unleashed his first career homer, a three-run shot to center field, and the Giants lead 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Werth crushed a solo homer to left field, his 13th of the season, and the Nationals got within 3-2.

Update III: In the sixth, Posey slammed a solo homer to left field, his 15th of the season, and the Giants lead 4-2.

Update IV: Fister threw 107 pitches, 74 for strikes in six innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out three.

Update V: Facing Jerry Blevins in the eighth with two outs and two men on, Travis Ishikawa slapped a two-run double to make the Giants' lead 6-2.

Update VI: The Giants scored four times in the ninth off Ross Detwiler for a 10-2 lead. Wilson Ramos had an RBI double in the ninth for the Nats, but their 10-game winning streak is done.
