Nice recovery by Chris Davis, VandenHurk is done

It was only a few days ago that Chris Davis went 0-for-6 with five strikeouts in New York, stranding seven runners in the process. He came within one strikeout of tying Sam Horn's single-game franchise record. Davis didn't let it get him down. He's 2-for-2 today, including a double in the top of the third inning that scored Vladimir Guerrero from first base and tied the game at 3-3. Davis is 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs since Wednesday's embarrassment in the Bronx. He was supposed to start at third base today, but moved to first as part of the domino effect from Adam Jones being scratched with a swollen ankle. Davis was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Josh Bell's two-out single in the third. Bell wasn't in the original lineup. I've lost count of how many Orioles have been cut down at home this week. Rick VandenHurk came out of today's game after 2 1/3 innings. He's charged with three runs and three hits, with two walks, one strikeout, a hit batter and two home runs. He threw 53 pitches, 25 for strikes. That won't get him back in the competition for a rotation spot. Zach Phillips took VandenHurk's place and stranded Jose Bautista at second.
