The sun's out this morning and Bud Norris is hoping he's not out of tonight's game after two innings.
No repeat of the Wrigley experience.
Norris was done after the second inning Saturday afternoon following a rain delay that lasted more than three hours. The Cubs don't have an indoor mound, which would have allowed Norris to stay loose. Then again, a delay of that length may have required divine intervention.
The Orioles could use some length from Norris tonight despite a fairly rested bullpen. The last two starters, Wei-Yin Chen and Kevin Gausman, have failed to complete five innings.
Norris will make his 23rd start of the year tonight and 10th at home, where he's 5-2 with a 2.86 ERA. He's allowed one or no earned runs in five of those outings at Camden Yards.
In five career games (four starts) against the Rays, Norris has gone 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 25 innings. He didn't get a decision in his only start this season after allowing two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings on May 7 at Tropicana Field.
Norris has never faced the Rays at Camden Yards.
James Loney is 9-for-18 lifetime against Norris, and Matt Joyce is 3-for-7.
Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria are a combined 2-for-19. Zobrist's only hit is a home run.
Jeremy Hellickson is 9-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 17 games (15 starts) against the Orioles. He's 3-2 with a 4.89 ERA in eight appearances at Camden Yards.
Chris Davis is 11-for-27 (.407) with three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs against Hellickson, and Adam Jones is 14-for-42 (.333) with a double and four home runs.
Nick Markakis has homered twice off Hellickson, but he's 8-for-38 (.211).
Five of Davis' last six hits since Aug. 17 have gone for extra bases - three doubles and two home runs - but he's batting .171/.237/.429 during that span.
Jones passed B.J. Surhoff last night for seventh place on the list of most games played at Camden Yards by an Oriole (501). Rafael Palmeiro is next at 505.
T.J. McFarland tossed three scoreless innings last night and still hasn't allowed a run at home as a reliever this season against a division opponent. The streak covers five appearances over 6 2/3 innings.
Tommy Hunter has allowed two earned runs in his last eight appearances over 9 2/3 innings sine Aug. 5.
