Norris back on the mound today

So much for Ubaldo Jimenez averaging 2.5 walks per nine innings.

I passed along that stat yesterday, and he responded by issuing six walks in five innings.

The most costly free pass came from reliever Brad Brach with two outs in the sixth. Jason Kipnis scored on Carlos Santana's double to break a 1-1 tie.

Oh, those two-out walks.

The Orioles are 2-4 on their road trip and they're sending Bud Norris to the mound for the first time since May 10. He's coming off the disabled list, which brings another roster move.

Norris is averaging 4.3 walks per nine innings, compared to 2.8 last season. He's 1-4 with a 9.88 ERA in six starts, his only win coming against the Red Sox on April 26.

In his last outing, Norris allowed four runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Yankees. The Orioles placed him on the disabled list with bronchitis and he made three starts in the minors while building up his endurance.

Norris is 2-0 with a 3.46 ERA in two starts against the Indians. He allowed one run and four hits over seven innings in his only game at Progressive Field, with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Lonnie Chisenhall is 3-for-5 with three doubles against Norris. Michael Brantley is 3-for-6.

Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco is 7-4 with a 3.92 ERA in 11 starts this season. He's averaging 2.1 walks and 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

Carrasco has allowed two runs over his last two starts, with three walks and 16 strikeouts in 15 innings. He's 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA in three career games (two starts) against the Orioles, with three runs allowed, two walks and 11 strikeouts in 15 innings.

The current Orioles are 7-for-39 (.179) against Carrasco. Delmon Young is 2-for-6 with a double, David Lough is 2-for-7 with a double and J.J. Hardy is 2-for-8 with a double.

Matt Wieters will catch today after going 1-for-4 yesterday as the designated hitter. He's 0-for-2 with a walk against Carrasco, while Caleb Joseph is 1-for-2 with a double.

In case you missed it, Kevin Gausman threw three scoreless innings last night for Single-A Frederick. He allowed one hit, struck out four and threw 32 of his 40 pitches for strikes.

Gausman is scheduled to start Thursday for Double-A Bowie. The Orioles want him to work four or five innings and throw 60-65 pitches.
