Notes on Gentry, Hart, Bundy and more (updated)

The Orioles could make a second roster move later today. The wheels are in motion.

They already announced that left-hander Donnie Hart was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and southpaw Vidal Nuño was optioned to the Tides. They also are trying to get another player here before tonight's game against the Indians. Otherwise, the move would be completed on Wednesday.

It's believed that they have summoned outfielder Craig Gentry, which could put David Washington's roster spot in jeopardy. Washington has struck out five times in six at-bats in his first major league action.

A spot would need to be cleared on the 40-man roster to accommodate Gentry, who's batting .275/.345/.382 with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 RBIs in 25 games. Closer Zach Britton could be moved to the 60-day disabled list. He wouldn't be able to return until July 4, which most likely is around his target date.

The Orioles value Gentry's defensive skills and baserunning. He's a plus defender in center field and they prefer Joey Rickard in the corners.

Hart didn't allow a run in four appearances over 4 2/3 innings after the Orioles optioned him for the second time. He walked one batter and struck out eight.

Hart was stretched out to 2 1/3 innings in his most recent outing on Saturday.

Nuño's MRI on his oblique came back clean today. He said he's also had soreness in his knee and hip this season, though it hasn't affected his performance at Norfolk.

Dylan Bundy will take his next scheduled turn on Saturday afternoon against the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla. He'll be pushed to the back of the rotation following the off-day on June 26 to provide three extra days of rest.

Bundy will start right before the All-Star break, then be pushed to the back again so again give him extra rest.

In his last four starts, Bundy has totaled five, six, five and 4 1/3 innings. He's up to 92 after throwing 109 2/3 last season.

Manager Buck Showalter said infielder Ryan Flaherty is feeling a little better today. Flaherty felt some discomfort in his right shoulder yesterday while throwing from beyond 60 feet.

Reliever Darren O'Day remains scheduled to throw a simulated game on Wednesday and could be activated on Friday. The sim game starts around 3 p.m. before batting practice.

Single-A Frederick outfielder Austin Hays is moving up to Double-A Bowie following the break.

Hays, a third-round pick last year out of Jacksonville, went 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs last night and is batting .328/.364/.592 with 15 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs and 41 RBIs in 64 games with the Keys.

Update: The Orioles announced the selection of Gentry's contract from Norfolk. Washington has been optioned to Triple-A and Britton has been moved to the 60-day disabled list to open a spot on the 40-man roster.
