Notes on rotation, Bundy, Rogers and Sisco

David Hess is getting another start for the Orioles on Saturday, completing two-thirds of the rotation for the weekend series in the Bronx. Yefry Ramírez starts the opener.

Manager Buck Showalter said he wants to push back Dylan Bundy to Monday in Boston, providing an extra day of rest. The vacancy on Sunday isn't likely to be filled by Dillon Tate or left-hander John Means, who continue to stay ready down in Sarasota.

"I don't think so, but let's see how Friday goes," Showalter said. "Friday will probably be a big day for us because we should be OK for Friday, but how we come out of Friday. I'm not going to have them get on a plane and come to New York and pitch the day they're traveling or whatever.

"I'm hoping to get through the next number of games without having to do anything. What is it, 11?"

Bundy worked 6 2/3 innings last night and left with the Orioles leading 4-2.

"That was a pretty strenuous outing last night," Showalter said. "He's going to probably get two more starts regardless, so how they fall, I really want to make sure we don't ... because of our situation with some of the starting pitching, pitch him sooner than we have to or should just because of that.

"I'm leaning toward Monday. I talked to him today. We'll see how he feels the next couple of days. Going to wait and probably give him a definitive answer tomorrow."

Bundy has registered quality starts in back-to-back outings, easing concerns that were building through a prolonged slump.

"It went for a long period of time and I was starting to go, 'Is there something else going on here?'" Showalter said. "But talking to him, and because of the things he's been through, he's so frank and honest with us. I think he trusts us that, he tells us, 'Hey, I wish there was something.' But he keeps working and tinkering a little bit there and there and seems to have gotten his command back a little bit."

Showalter didn't have any updates on veterans Alex Cobb (blister) and Andrew Cashner (knee).

"They haven't thrown today, but nothing imminent where they fit into the picture," Showalter said.

The Orioles are shutting down rookie left-hander Josh Rogers after three starts and sending him home. He won't make the trip to New York and Boston.

"We're not going to let him pitch any more the rest of the time," Showalter said. "He's accomplished everything that we want him to accomplish."

Rookie catcher Chance Sisco won't travel to New York. He hasn't played since taking a foul ball off the mask in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

"If he passes the concussion test, we'll bring him on the road," Showalter said.

The Orioles might shut down another pitcher and send him home or to the fall instructional league. Showalter didn't give a name, but I'm assuming it's rookie Luis Ortiz.
