Notes on Turner, Hague, Keyes, Desmond, Jordan and Wooten

Ricky Hague had a smashing debut for Triple-A Syracuse with a three-run homer in the Chiefs' 8-1 dispatch of Toledo.

It was Hague's first homer since June 27, 2014 while with Double-A Harrisburg. He finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs in his Triple-A debut.

Kevin Keyes also debuted with an RBI double in his first at-bat. He also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Taylor Jordan had a nice bounce back performance extending to seven innings, allowing five hits, no runs, no walks and striking out five to earn the win. It was his first victory since April 10 in the minors. He had gone just 1 2/3 innings in his last start, allowing eight runs. His ERA is now 3.20.

trea-turner-usa-sidebar.jpgDouble-A shortstop Trea Turner could make his debut tonight for Harrisburg against Richmond at home. He last played a game June 13 for the San Antonio Missions. Turner was the player to be named later in the three-way deal with the Padres and Rays that sent Steven Souza Jr. to Tampa Bay and Wil Myers to San Diego. Myers is currently on the D.L.

Several believe Turner will be the everyday shortstop for the Nationals sooner than later. ESPN's Jim Bowden believes that would be August 1, which is a day after the trade deadline. This would mean that veteran Ian Desmond would be traded, which, of course, would be blockbuster news in the Nationals sphere.

Desmond has played in 835 games in seven seasons dating back to 2009, all with the Nationals, and is one of the top team leaders. But Desmond is mired in a difficult slump, having struck out 21 times since June 2 and 11 times in the past four games. His average has dropped from .260 May 29 to .222 after the loss to the Rays Monday, with only two hits since June 5.

High Single-A Potomac first baseman John Wooten has been rolling recently with a current 10-game hit streak. Wooten has gone .400 (16-for-40) with eight runs, three homers and seven RBIs. He has had five multi-hit games since June 5 and was one of the hitting heroes in last year's Carolina League Mills Cup title run.
