Now the offense gets into the act

The Orioles' amazing run to a record of 18-9 and a four-game win streak this week at New York and Boston has been led by the pitching. But now there are signs that the Orioles' offense is about to get into the act. The Orioles still lead the American League in team ERA at 2.76 and the rotation ERA is 1.99 over the last 12 games, a stretch during which they are 10-2. But over the last seven games, the Orioles' offense has produced 72 hits, a team average of .288, 15 doubles, one triple, nine homers and 42 runs scored for an average of 6.0 per game. In their first 23 games, the O's offense produced double-digit hits game just seven times and now that has happened five times over the last seven games and four times in a row. Before this run, the Orioles had back-to-back games of 10 or more hits just once all year. This seven-game stretch follows a 10-game run where the Orioles scored just 30 total runs and has raised the team average from .242 to .255. Here is an update on some of the individual hitters: Robert Andino: While he has now gone 12 games without an extra-base hit, he is batting .435 (10-for-23) with 10 singles over his past seven games. Wilson Betemit: He is batting .379 (11-for-29) during a nine-game hitting streak with two homers and eight RBIs. He has raised his average from .171 to .266 during the streak. Betemit has at least one RBI in six of his last seven games. Chris Davis: He is batting .400 (14-for-35) over his last 10 games with two doubles, four homers, 10 runs and 10 RBIs. Davis has been consistent with a .333 average and .889 OPS against left-handed pitchers and numbers of .324/.957 versus right-handers. Mark Reynolds: After not homering and with just four extra-base hits over his first 20 games and 66 at-bats, Reynolds now has four extra-base hits in the last two games and eight at-bats. He is 4-for-8 in Boston with two doubles, two homers and five RBIs. Matt Wieters: He is batting .375 (9-for-24) during a six-game hitting streak with three doubles, a triple, a homer and five RBIs. These are good signs for an O's offense that has yet to see Nick Markakis or J.J. Hardy really heat up yet and also has missed Nolan Reimold for several games.
