O's announce Correnti addition and VandenHurk release

The Orioles have announced the hiring of Chris Correnti as a performance consultant. Correnti was most recently with the New York Mets as a rehabilitation specialist from 2007-2010. Correnti will provide fitness and conditioning advisory services to the organization. He will be responsible for the oversight of the individual rehabilitation of injured players, as selected by the medical staff. Correnti will also implement year-round training and conditioning programs for the organization's pitchers. He served as an assistant trainer and rehab coordinator with the Boston Red Sox from 1994-2005 and began his career in baseball as a minor league trainer in the Houston Astros organization from 1990-1994. The Orioles also announced today that pitcher Rick VandenHurk cleared waivers and was released after being designated for assignment on Jan. 24. He was removed from the 40-man roster then when the Orioles added Wilson Betemit. The club also today announced it has promoted Kevin Cummings to director of ballpark operations. Cummings has over 20 years of experience working in the sports industry. Before joining the Orioles in 2010 as assistant director of ballpark operations, he was most recently with the Lancaster Barnstormers independent baseball team. Cummings will oversee the gameday operation of Oriole Park, including serving as the primary liaison between the Orioles and the Maryland Stadium Authority. He will also oversee over 300 Oriole Park event employees, as well as leading the Orioles' green initiatives and sustainability efforts.
