O's await MRI results for minor league prospect Nicky Delmonico

Single-A Delmarva infielder Nicky Delmonico, who just eight days ago was named the MVP of the South Atlantic League All-Star game, now is headed for the disabled list with a knee injury. Delmonico left Delmarva's game last night, today had an MRI and the Orioles are awaiting the results of what is a medial meniscus injury. Delmonico will likely see Orioles orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens over the next few days. In 70 games for the Shorebirds, Delmonico was batting .254 with 20 doubles, six homers and 43 RBIs. He has a .351 on-base percentage, .402 slugging percentage and .754 OPS. He was drafted in the sixth round last June out of Farragut High in Tennessee and was named the Orioles' seventh-best prospect in the preseason by Baseball America. Delmonico went 2-for-4 in the Sally League All-Star game with a single and double. In better prospect news for O's fans, Manny Machado hit a two-run homer for Double-A Bowie in the first inning tonight, giving him 11 hits over his last 25 at-bats with three homers and 13 RBIs.
