O's end first half with a thud as Angels win 6-0 (Dylan Bundy note)

If the Orioles were hoping to head into the All-Star break on a high note, this wasn't it. They have now been shut out in back-to-back games and have gone 22 innings without scoring a run. A pitcher with a terrible career ERA shut them out over five innings this afternoon, as the Orioles lost 6-0 to Los Angeles to head into the break with a record of 45-40. The Orioles still do hold the AL's second wild card berth, but now by just a 1/2 game over Tampa Bay and one game over Cleveland With this loss, the Orioles drop this series, three games to one, to the Angels. The Orioles have lost nine of their past 13 and are 6-13 over their last 19 games. The Orioles lost to a pitcher today in lefty Brad Mills that entered this game with a major league record of 2-3 and with an ERA of 8.57. Mills was making a spot start for the Angels after giving up 10 earned runs over his last 10 1/3 innings at Triple-A. Yet this afternoon, he blanked the Orioles on just three hits over five innings to get the victory. Mills did not walk a batter and fanned six Orioles. Wei-Yin Chen took the loss to fall to 7-5 with an ERA of 3.93. Chen gave up five hits, including a season-high three homers and four runs, over four-plus innings. The Angels hit four homers as Eric Aybar and Mike Trout connected for solo shots off Chen, and Albert Pujols hit a two-run shot. Mark Trumbo hit a solo homer off Luis Ayala. The Orioles scored just three runs in the last three games of this series and did not score in 31 of their last 32 innings against Los Angeles. They look like a team that needs to regroup at the break. The season resumes Friday when the Orioles host Detroit at Camden Yards. Note on Bundy: He was ranked this week by Baseball America as the No. 1 prospect in baseball, and O's prospect Dylan Bundy pitched a scoreless fourth inning for Team USA at the Futures Game today. Bundy did give up three singles in the top of the fourth in Kansas City, but a runner was cut down at third base to help keep the World Team off the board. His fastball ranged from 94 to 96 mph during the inning. Bundy got Jurickson Profar, listed as the No. 2 prospect on the BA rankings, to line out with two on to end the frame.
