O's game blog: Andrew Cashner scheduled to face Detroit in Game 2

After Chris Tillman's gem last night and a 6-0 win, the Orioles (7-19) host the Detroit Tigers (10-14) tonight in the second game of a weekend series.

Tonight's game will not start on time. At around 6:30 p.m. the Orioles annouced a delayed start due to inclement weather. No start time has been announced.

Update: Now we do have a start time. The Orioles announced tonight's game will start at approximately 7:30.

Last night's win, as Tillman allowed one hit over seven scoreless, snapped Baltimore's five-game losing streak. The Orioles won for just the second time in their past 13 games and third time in 16. They improved to 2-5 on this homestand and to 4-9 at Camden Yards for the season. A win in one of the next two games would provide the Orioles their second series victory of 2018. They have lost seven of their first eight series to begin the season.

Tonight the Orioles will try to record back-to-back wins for just the second time. They won on April 5-6 at Yankee Stadium.

The Tigers are 3-1 versus the Orioles, 4-7 on the road and 3-10 when their opponent scores first as the O's did last night on Manny Machado's first-inning home run.

Machado is 15-for-33 (.455) with six homers over his past nine games. Since going the first seven games of the season without a homer or RBI, Machado is batting .405 over 19 games with nine homers and 20 RBIs. He has nine multi-hit games in that span.

The Tigers have been shutout in two straight games and have not scored a run their past 22 innings. They have been shutout five times on the year. Detroit scored 23 runs in a three-game sweep of the Orioles April 17-19 at Comerica Park.

Tonight, right-hander Andrew Cashner (1-3, 3.60 ERA) makes his sixth start. In his first three he went 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA. In his last two he is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA. Lefty batters are hitting .288 off Cashner and right-handers are hitting .192. He allows an average of only .107 when pitching with runners in scoring position and has held opponents to 0-for-11 with RISP and two outs. Cashner took the loss April 17 at Detroit. Over six innings he gave up seven hits and three runs.

Lefty Franciso Liriano (2-1, 3.13 ERA) will make his fifth start for the Tigers. On the season Liriano has thrown 23 innings allowing 14 hits and eight runs with 12 walks, 20 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .177. Lefty batters are hitting just .045 (1-for-22) versus Liriano while right-handed batters are hitting .228. He yields a .111 average pitching with RISP.

On April 17 Liriano pitched against Cashner and got the victory. Over five innings he allowed five hits and two runs on 88 pitches. In 11 career games, he is 3-5 with a 4.10 ERA. In three career starts at Oriole Park, he is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA.

Double-A Bowie lost 11-3 at Akron this afternoon. Losing pitcher Lucas Long allowed three runs in an inning to fall to 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA. Starter Michael Kelly allowed two runs over five frames. The Baysox top three hitters - Cedric Mullins, Corban Joseph and Austin Hays - combined to go 0-for-12.
