O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces Sean Manaea in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. - After their second one-run loss in four days on this road trip, the Orioles play the third game of their weekend series tonight against the Athletics.

The Orioles let a 4-3 lead get away in the eighth last night and lost 5-4 to the A's. They are 2-3 on this 10-game road trip and that included Tuesday's 3-2 loss in Anaheim to Parker Bridwell and the Angels.

The Orioles missed a chance to get back to the .500 mark Friday night. They are 57-59 and 22-36 in road games. They are 9-5 over their past 14 games and 15-13 since the All-Star break.

Oakland is 51-65 and snapped a four-game home losing streak last night. The Athletics are 32-28 in home games and 13-14 in games against American League East opponents.

Right-hander Dylan Bundy (11-8, 4.15 ERA) makes the start tonight on regular rest. He went seven innings and gave up two runs Monday at Anaheim, as the Orioles beat the Angels 6-2. Bundy fanned 10 in that game with no walks.

Over his last two starts, he has thrown 15 innings and allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk, 15 strikeouts and a .157 average against. In four starts in the second half, Bundy is 3-0 with a 3.42 ERA.

The right-hander has 15 quality starts to lead the team. The next closest is Kevin Gausman with nine. The Orioles are 13-9 in Bundy's 22 starts.

Left-hander Sean Manaea (8-6, 4.15 ERA) makes his 22nd start for Oakland tonight. Over his past two starts against the Giants and Angels, he has pitched 6 1/3 combined innings and given up 15 hits and 12 runs (seven earned).

Manaea went 1-3 with a 5.52 ERA over his first six starts this year, then 7-2 with a 2.92 ERA over an 11-start stretch from May 20 to July 16. Now he is 0-1 with a 6.63 ERA and .360 opponents' batting average over his last four starts. He is 4-0 with a 3.32 ERA in six starts against AL East teams compared to 4-6 with a 4.54 ERA in 15 starts against everyone else.

Manaea is pitching on five days' rest tonight. He is 4-1 with a 3.71 ERA in nine starts on five days' rest or more, compared to 4-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts on four days' of rest. He has never faced the Orioles in his career.

The lefty was twice ranked as a top 100 prospect by Baseball America. He was No. 81 after the 2014 season and No. 48 after 2015. Bundy was rated four times over the years as a top 100 national prospect, with a high of No. 2 at the end of the 2012 season.
