O's game blog: Dylan Bundy on mound in Boston series finale

After Monday's 5-3 loss and Tuesday's 7-6 win, the Orioles and Boston wrap up their three-game series tonight at Camden Yards. The Orioles seven-game homestand will run through Sunday.

The Orioles (29-73) ended a four-game losing streak last night with their first win since the All-Star game. Over longer stretches, they have lost 14 of 19 and 21 of 27. The Orioles went 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position in Tuesday's win. They were batting just .153 in their previous 18 games with RISP.

Boston (71-32) leads New York by five games atop the AL East. The Red Sox are 5-2 their last seven games, 15-3 over the last 18 and 41-17 since May 18. Boston has won 13 of its last 15 versus the Orioles dating to last year and is 10-2 this season against the Orioles.

Right-hander Dylan Bundy (6-9, 4.57) will make his 20th start for the Orioles tonight. Since Bundy returned from the disabled list his ERA is 10.57 his past three starts. He allowed three homers and five runs over five innings Friday at Toronto. In those last three games he has pitched 12 1/3 innings and given up 19 hits and 16 runs (15 earned). Bundy has allowed five earned runs exactly for three consecutive starts.

He has thrown well without a win this season against Boston, going 0-2 with a 2.29 ERA in three starts. On June 11, Bundy threw eight scoreless on three hits against the Red Sox.

While he has an ERA of 1.83 in day games, Bundy is 1-8 with a 7.29 ERA over 11 night game starts. The Orioles are 7-12 in his outings.

The Orioles rotation has recorded just one quality start in its past 16 games, with an ERA of 6.43. O's starting pitchers went 18 games without recording a win until Yefry Ramirez got the victory last night at Oriole Park.

Left-hander David Price (11-6, 4.17 ERA) gets the start for Boston, his 21st start of the season. On Friday versus Detroit he threw 6 1/3 scoreless on four hits and 96 pitches. It was his third scoreless start of this season.

But in four July starts, Price is 2-1 with a 6.43 ERA and has allowed eight homers in 21 innings. He gave up five of those homers in 3 1/3 on July 1 when he allowed eight runs to the Yankees. But over a longer stretch of his past 13 starts, Price is 9-2 with a 3.72 ERA.

Price faced the Orioles once this year and pitched a complete-game on May 17 at Boston in a 6-2 Red Sox win. He allowed five hits and two runs with no walks and eight strikeouts, on only 95 pitches.

In 26 career starts against Baltimore, he is 13-5 with a 2.77 ERA. In his last five starts versus the Orioles, he is 5-0 with an ERA of 2.19. He's never lost in 11 career starts at Oriole Park, going 7-0 with a 2.96 ERA. His seven-decision winning streak at the venue is tied for the longest ever by a visitor (last done by Justin Verlander, 2006-14) and is the longest by any pitcher since Chris Tillman's nine-decision stretch from Oct. 4, 2015 to July 10, 2016.

Maybe you've noticed, the Orioles are playing a lot of games decided by one run lately. They have played nine games decided by a single run in their last 13 games (going 5-4). They have played 12 of the last 19 by one run (going 5-7).
