O's game blog: O's try to snap 11-game home losing streak

A loss today by the Orioles against the Miami Marlins would mean the Orioles will be swept in five of their past six series. The Birds (19-50) host the Marlins (28-43) to complete the series. Miami won 2-0 Friday night and 5-4 yesterday.

The Orioles have been swept in four of their last five series, they lost three at home to Washington and two at home to the Yankees. After they swept two games on the road from the New York Mets they lost four in a row at Toronto and three at Camden Yards to the Red Sox heading into this series.

The Orioles have lost nine in a row, their longest streak since July 4-15, 2011. They have lost 11 in a row at home since beating Tampa Bay 17-1 on May 13. The 11 straight losses has tied a club record set in 2007.

He has thrown back-to-back scoreless starts of seven innings versus the Mets and eight against Boston. Over those 15 innings he's allowed just six hits in 50 at-bats. He has a 17 innings scoreless streak riding.

Bundy threw eight scoreless on Monday against Boston with seven strikeouts. Andrew Benintendi went 2-for-3 against him and the rest of the Boston lineup went 1-for-23. That was Bundy's third scoreless start over his past six games and fourth on the year.

He is 3-2 with a 2.09 ERA his last six games. Over 43 innings he has allowed 26 hits as his season ERA was reduced from 5.31 to 3.66. Bundy has nine quality starts and the Orioles are 5-9 in his 14 games.

In six day game starts, Bundy is 3-1 with a 1.08 ERA and .163 average against. He has allowed just one homer in 41 2/3 in those games.

Right-hander Trevor Richards (1-3, 4.41 ERA) gets the start for Miami, his eighth of the season. The 24-year-old is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and .237 average against in two June starts.

Richards was signed by Miami as a minor league free agent in July 2, 2016. He has two quality starts in seven games and has thrown five innings or less five times. Lefty batters hit .217 off him and right-handers are batting .265. He allows just a .136 average when pitching with runners in scoring position.

On this date in 1973, the Orioles stranded 17 runners but prevailed, 5-4, over Texas. First baseman Earl Williams doubled home Bobby Grich in the bottom of the 16th inning in a game that took 4:07 to complete. Exactly one year later on this date in 1974, left-hander Mike Cuellar shut out Minnesota, 1-0, in just 1 hour, 43 minutes.
