O's game blog: Tyler Wilson on the mound in Game 3 at Seattle

SEATTLE - The Seattle Mariners have been pretty good this year against the American League East and the Orioles are quite aware of that. Seattle is 4-1 versus the Orioles and 11-6 against the AL East, including a 5-0 record at Safeco Field.

The Orioles will try to hand them their first home loss against an AL East team when the clubs play tonight in the third game of a four-game series. The Orioles need to win the next two games to gain a split of this series.

Since 2012, the Orioles are 19-14 versus the Mariners, and 10-8 at Safeco Field, but they lost here 5-3 Thursday and 5-2 last night with 13 hits combined in the two games.

Wilson-Throws-Orange-Sidebar.jpgRight-hander Tyler Wilson (4-5, 4.50 ERA) tonight makes his 16th appearance, his 13th as a starter tonight. Left-hander James Paxton (1-3, 4.15 ERA) pitches for Seattle, making his seventh start.

Wilson gave up 10 hits and five runs Sunday against Tampa Bay in his last start and has allowed five runs in three of his past five starts. He is 2-1 with a 5.65 ERA in that stretch. In five road starts, he is 3-1 with a 3.88 ERA. He faced the Mariners on May 19 in Baltimore and took a loss, giving up five runs over six innings.

Paxton, a native of Canada, had an ERA of 2.86 after four starts. But he is 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA over his past two starts, allowing nine runs and 19 hits in 12 2/3 innings. A fourth-round pick of the Mariners in 2010, he yields an average against of .333 versus lefty batters and .316 against right-handed hitters.

Three Seattle bullpen pitchers combined for three scoreless innings of relief last night. In the last four games, the Mariners bullpen has combined to record 23 of 39 outs via strikeout with 23 over 13 innings.

Two Orioles saw two hitting streaks end last night. Adam Jones had an 11-game streak end. He hit .396 (19-for-48) during that stretch. Manny Machado's 10-game streak ended. He hit .523 (23-for-44) during the streak.

Seattle pitchers have held the Orioles to 12 runs and a .181 batting average in five games. Jones is 1-for-19 in the season series while Machado is 3-for-18, Jonathan Schoop 3-for-16 and Chris Davis 3-for-17.
