O's hit the skids, Davis talks the mental game and previewing today's live chats

The Orioles have now lost four of their last five games and eight of their past 11. That escalated quickly and not in a good way.

They've now lost three straight one-run games and lost for the first time in extra innings last night after a 4-0 start this year.

A loss tonight would drop the Orioles back to even .500 at 23-23. They have not been there since April 27 when they were 12-12.

The Orioles have scored 30 runs and hit eight homers the last four games, yet they have lost three of those games. O's starters have suddenly pitched to an ERA of 8.68 in those four games. That might be why they've lost three of the four.

Meanwhile, Chris Davis went 0-for-5 last night but he is starting to hit the ball harder more often. He lined out to right and flied deep to center in his first two at-bats on Thursday.

After going 5-for-28 in his first eight games after coming off the disabled list, Davis is 6-for-13 with three homers and six RBIs the past three games.

Before yesterday's game, Davis talked about the mental part of the game and the ups and downs players have to deal with.

"This game is a lot about failure and knowing how to deal with that mentally is just as big as going about your physical work each day. Probably one of the best things that happened to me was to struggle as bad as I did in Texas. It taught me how to grind through that," Davis said.

"I know everyone wanted me to start off hot this year like I did last year. I wanted that, too. I knew it probably wasn't a reality, but I thought if you did it once you could do it again.

"I continued to tell myself I knew it was going to be there. I knew I wasn't right physically. But my swing started to come along. Sometimes you just have to take your time with power. It can be frustrating."

If you ever wanted to ask Davis a question, you have your chance later today here at MASNsports.com. At around 1:30 p.m., I'll be hosting a live chat with Davis here on our front page and you can send us your questions via social media, including Facebook and Twitter.

In fact, today's chat is a doubleheader. Adam Jones will follow Davis into our Web studio in the Warehouse and fans can chat with both Davis and Jones. That's a pretty big day of live chats and fans have their chance to talk to two rather prominent Orioles. Hope you can be here later today for that.
