O's lose series finale, are swept away by Tampa Bay

After using offense to win the first two games of this series, Tampa Bay today turned to the American League co-leader in wins, and lefty Matt Moore outdueled Chris Tillman as the Rays beat the Orioles 3-1 to complete the three-game sweep. The Orioles have lost five in a row and are 0-5 on this homestand. It's the Rays' first three-game sweep in Baltimore since May 6-8, 2011. The Orioles were 10-3 in their last 13 home games versus Tampa Bay coming into this series. Moore gave up just five hits and one run over seven innings, throwing 106 pitches. He improves to 8-0 with an ERA of 2.29. With the win, Moore breaks his tie with Yu Darvish of Texas atop the AL leaderboard and is now the major league leader in wins. Tillman went six innings and gave up five hits and three runs (all earned) with one walk and four strikeouts. He threw 111 pitches, 71 for strikes. This was his sixth consecutive quality start (three earned runs or less over six or more innings pitched) and Tillman's ERA is 2.27 in that span. He provided a decent start for a rotation that had pitched to an ERA of 7.32 over the last eight games. He was also facing a Rays team that had scored 22 runs on 28 hits with 13 doubles and three homers in the first two games of this series. The Orioles tied the game 1-1 when Manny Machado led off the fourth with a triple and scored on an Adam Jones single. Jones stole second and third with one out, but was stranded there on a day the Orioles went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Tampa moved ahead with solo homers from former Oriole Luke Scott in the fifth and Matt Joyce in the sixth. The Orioles thought Joyce's drive down the right field line might be foul, but not only was it ruled fair, it was ruled a homer after a lengthy delay and a replay review. With this result, Tampa ties the Orioles for third place in the AL East with both at 23-20. Tampa now leads 5-4 in the season series. The Orioles look to end the losing streak when the first place New York Yankees hit town Monday night for the opener of a three-game series.
