O's need a win tonight to avoid season-high loss streak

Tonight, the Orioles are trying to avoid matching their season-long losing streak, which is just three games. That came when they got swept in a three-game series by New York in the second series of the year. The O's lost the last two games of the Kansas City series and scored just five total runs in those games. They left a combined 19 runners on base in the games and went 1-for-13 when hitting with runners in scoring position. The Orioles have been in first place every day since they were 19-9 on May 6. With Tampa Bay losing this afternoon, Baltimore will be in no worse than a tie for the division lead at the end of tonight. hunter-new-orange-sidebar.jpgTonight's game did not start well for Tommy Hunter, who was behind 1-0 after just two batters. He got out of a jam giving up just one run in that inning, but needed 26 pitches to get out of the first frame. Toronto led 1-0 in the second inning. In ten games with eight career starts against Toronto, Hunter is 2-3 with an ERA of 6.06. Hunter is winless over his last five starts since beating Toronto on April 24. Mark Reynolds returned to the Orioles active roster off the DL today and is batting eighth tonight as the DH. Reynolds is batting just .191 in 27 games this season, with two homers, nine RBIs and an OPS of .661. But before he went on the DL, Reynolds was 8-for-23 (.348) over his last seven games with three doubles, two homers and six RBIs.
