The only thing that needed saving at Camden Yards tonight was the Orioles offense.
Toronto lefty Dana Eveland, who had an ERA of 7.16 last year with Oakland, pitched 7 1/3 scoreless frames tonight to lead the Jays to the 3-0 win. The O's fall to 1-4.
Eveland allowed just five hits in winning his debut game as the Jays new fifth starter.
The Orioles got the leadoff man on in three of the first four frames, but could never get him in. Eveland has done this to the Orioles before. On May 5, 2008, in his only other previous appearance vs. the O's, he pitched seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball for Oakland.
Maybe he got on a roll in the spring, when he pitched to an ERA of 1.23.
Number nine hitter, Jose Molina, drove in two runs for the Blue Jays who are now 2-0 this year in Baltimore after going 1-8 here last year.
Tonight, the Birds went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and are just 8 for 46 with that stat on the season.
The Orioles have scored just 17 runs on the year in five games and must win Sunday to avoid being swept three straight in the first home series of the year.
